The Groovy Judy Band has crazy hats, groovy music and lots of fun planned for their CD release party Friday at Borders Books in San Mateo.
The band offers a touch of the ’60s with peace, love and joy. Their music is inspired by Judy’s mentor, Jimi Hendrix. Judy’s colorful clothes, outrageous hats and wacky glasses are inspired by the fashions of the psychedelic ’60s.
The band is well-known throughout the Bay Area for its many performances at clubs, cafes, special events and spiritual centers.
Friday’s party marks the release of the band’s debut CD, appropriately titled “Groovy Judy.” The CD is available on the Web at www.groovyjudy.com, MP3.com, amazon.com, cdbaby.com, liquidmusicnetwork.com and at Borders Books in San Mateo and Sacramento.
A portion of the proceeds from the CD sales will be donated to the Peninsula Humane Society, which provides a wide variety of services for the care and adoption of animals in the County. The company that produced the CD, Hey Judy Productions, has raised money in the past for the Leukemia Society, Food Not Bombs, the American Red Cross and Samaritan House.
The party is free and open to all ages. The show begins at 8 p.m. Borders Books is at 2925 El Camino Real in San Mateo, across from the Hillsdale Mall. For more information, call Borders Books at (650) 525-1162 or the Peninsula Humane Society at (650) 340-7022.
